To get the first equipment, you can accept quest "The First Weapon" at NPC South Palace Elder (Snow City, Cosmos Tribe) / Elder Situ (Azure City, Chaos Tribe), and then complete it at NPC Blacksmith.  

 

When you obtain the first equipment (a weapon) as quest reward, you can open your item bag by mouse (or press key "I") and then right click the weapon to equip it.

When you get new equipment again, place the mouse over the new equipment and both detailed information of the new equipment and current equipment (the same type) will be shown.  It's convenient to make comparisons.  

If you want to change for the new equipment, just right click to equip it.  Please check item bag constantly to see if you have got a piece of better equipment.

 

Equipments Comparison

 

You can make better equipment by Identification and Enhancement.

 

Equipment Identification:

 

Identification can activate potential attributes of equipment to add its attributes. 

 

You can indentify equipment at NPC Blacksmith by using Identify Gem.  Right click to talk to Blacksmith, left-click to choose Identification (Weapon, Equipment) option, put the gem into corresponding place and begin to identify.

Equipment Enhancement:

 

Enhancement will make equipment better by increasing equipment’s attribute value. 

 

NPC Blacksmith will help you with it.  Visit him and choose Enhancement (Weapon, Equipment or Mount) option.  The operation is similar to "Identification".
